PUDUKOTTAI: The Pudukottai district Primary Agricultural Cooperative Bank Employees’ Association plans to launch a three-pronged agitation to press the State Government to pay the salary to the bank employees pending for the past four months.
A resolution adopted to this effect at its district council meeting here on Saturday referred to the non-payment of salaries to 968 employees attached to 91 PACBs in parts of the district since April. It said that non-refund of money following the waiver of farm loans had resulted in a poor fiscal status of these grassroot-level cooperative banks.
In the first and third phase, the employees, along with their family members, would stage agitations in front of the District Collectorate here and in front of the office of the Registrar of Cooperatives in Chennai on August 14 and September 14 respectively. The second phase of the stir would be marked by a one-day token strike on August 28, another resolution said.
The District president of the association, R. Subramanian, and its secretary, M. Krishnamoorthy, who spoke on the occasion, said that the agitation would also press the State Government to re-introduce ‘Development Action Plan’ for releasing funds to the primary banks for stabilising their financial status. They also wanted additional subsidy to the banks to meet the expenses for ensuring efficient public distribution system through the purchase of electronic weighing machine and other accessories.
