557 pilgrims leave for Amarnath cave shrine
JAMMU: A batch of 557 pilgrims left on Saturday for the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in South Kashmir.
Comprising 237 men, 98 women, 14 children and 208 sadhus, the batch left the base camp of MAM stadium here in a fleet of 15 vehicles early morning, officials said.
Escorted by security personnel, the yatris (pilgrims) reached Patnitop on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at 9.30 a.m. and were moving towards the base camps of Nunwan in Pahalgam and Baltal in the valley, they said. The pilgrims were expected to reach their respective destinations by this evening. After a night’s halt at the base camps, they would start for the shrine on Sunday. — PTI
