Khadi fair offers eco-friendly products

The Khadi and Village Industries Fair organised by the Kerala Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi at Thycaud here in connection with the Onam festival season features an array of eco-friendly products.

The exhibition and sale, at Gandhi Bhavan, is attracting city residents in hordes.

The textile products exhibited at the fair include cotton khadi, muslin khadi, Bengal muslin, bed sheets, khadi silk saris, shirts in khadi silk and spunsilk, churidars and T-shirts and the Swaraj brand of eco-friendly shirts promoted by the Khadi and Village Industries Corporation.

Mattresses and pillows made of natural cotton and a range of colourful carpets have turned out to be good crowd-pullers.

Handicrafts made of fibre, brass and paper pulp, coir footmats, gingelly oil made in traditional oil mills, honey, leather footwear, Kolhapuri chappals and furniture made of wood, steel and cane are other major attractions.

The event offers an opportunity for small scale industrial units supported by the Khadi and Village Industries Corporation to exhibit their products including washing soap, toilet soaps, essential oils and pickles.

Rebate on khadi

The organisers are offering a rebate of 30 per cent on khadi products.

A special stall has been set up for Gandhian publications. Visitors can also visit the Gandhi Museum at the venue.

Salaried employees can avail of credit facility to purchase goods at the fair.

Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar inaugurated the fair on August 1.

The event is on till August 25.
