HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has called upon the non-resident Indians of Telugu origin to do their bit for the motherland by way of charity.

“Your support will go a long way in alleviating poverty, bring back happy days for farmers and improve the living conditions of poor in the rural areas,” he said.

He was speaking after presenting the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) International Internship Programme Brand Ambassador Awards to five US-born Telugu students.

Key role

Mr. Naidu said Telugus were playing a key role in the US in medical and IT sectors and hoped their rich experience in that country would come in handy when they returned to Andhra Pradesh.

Bhavana Chilukuri (University of Maryland), Sneha Jasti (Boston University), Prabhat Uppuluri (University of Texas), Prathyusha Mididoddi (Emory University) and Saritha Goripathi (University of California), who spent 40 days in the State to complete their internship received the awards. While three of them worked in Medwin Hospital, one associated herself with Physically Challenged Residential School and College run by Vegesna Foundation and another with Jayabheri, a real estate firm.

TANA objective

The programme was devised by TANA to promote Telugu culture and bonds among the younger generation of Americans of Telugu origin.

It provided interns the experience of living and working during their stay in the State.
