VISAKHAPATNAM: The district unit of All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation (AIPSO) will observe peace and solidarity day on Monday (August 6). Addressing a media conference in this connection on Saturday, AIPSO district president Devarakonda Markandeyulu and secretary S.V. Prasada Rao said that Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao and Deputy Mayor Dora Babu would release doves at Kancharapalem Mettu and address children from three schools who would participate in the function. A seminar would be held at the VJF Press Club on August 9. It was on August 6, 1945 that the first atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima which resulted in the death of 78,150 people, injuries to 37,425 and missing of 13,983 people. As many as 90,000 buildings, including 45 hospitals, were razed to the ground. They said that AIPSO was set up with the objective of spreading the message of peace among the people, informing them the benefits of peace and the futility of wars. Mr. Prasada Rao said that the amount being spent by various countries across the globe on procuring weapons and on health and education was in $ 7: $ 1 ratio. He felt that the amount could be used to promote peace.
