GHMC moves to end parking woes

Staff Reporter

15 parking spaces to be identified

HYDERABAD: Lack of parking space at commercial centres in twin cities, which is causing a lot of heart burn among the general public, can be solved to some extent by way of a three-pronged strategy, feels GHMC Special Commissioner C.V.S.K. Sharma.

In the GHMC face-to-face programme on Saturday, Mr. Sharma informed that the municipal body is in the process of identifying 15 parking spaces in twin cities.

These parking spaces would be able to accommodate a large chunk of vehicles, he said.

The Special Commissioner informed that GHMC is also identifying places to set up parking meters, which could assist in streamlining the parking system.

He further added that about 417 commercial establishments that include bars and restaurants have been served notices to identify alternative place for parking within a month or face closure.

Dangling wires

Several callers in the face-to-face programme, also chaired in-charge Minister for Hyderabad, Md. Shabbir Ali, complained on cable and internet wires.

Two callers pointed out that cable wires are dangling in a hap-hazard manner at various locations, causing a major nuisance.

“We are still in talks with internet company owners, cable operators to solve the problem of hap-hazard cable wires.

We are very much sure that this problem would be solved very soon,” Mr. Shabbir Ali informed.

In an attempt to check the growing complaints on private contractors involved in maintaining street lights, Mr. Sharma invited Residential Welfare Associations to come forward for maintenance of the same.

“I will immediately cancel the licenses of private contractors if welfare associations come forward,” he said.

Heads of various departments including Hyderabad Collector R.V. Chandravadan and Minister for BC Welfare M. Mukesh Goud were present in the face to face programme.
