Airport employees arrested

CHENNAI: The Airport police arrested two employees of the Airlines Operators Committee (AOC) on charges of misappropriating the luggage of passengers they checked and recovered 50 sovereigns of jewellery from them.

According to the Airport police, the two employees, S. Prabu and G. Chockalingam, allegedly removed a box containing the jewellery of a passenger. The police said Parveen of Dubai wrongly picked up the baggage of one Mr Reddappa and landed at the Chennai International Airport.

When Mr. Reddappa came to know about it he informed Mr. Parveen to hand over the luggage to the Airlines Operators Committee. When Mr. Reddappa got his baggage he was shocked to note that the baggage was without the jewellery. Following this he filed a police complaint.

Investigation by the Airport police revealed that the baggage was opened and the jewellery box allegedly removed by the employees of the AOC. The two employees were arrested and remanded to custody.
