HYDERABAD: A four-month-old boy K. Aravind died allegedly within hours of administration of vaccine at a Government medical camp at Sanathangar on Saturday. The Sanathnagar police registered a case of suspicious death under section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code following a complaint from the victim’s parents. Residents of Shastrinagar in Borabanda, the child’s parents -- K. Srinivas and Pushpalata -- went out on some work in the morning. The boy’s aunt Vijayalaxmi took him to a medical camp organised at a nearby temple by the local primary health centre around noon for administration of vaccine. According to her, the boy fell asleep soon after the vaccine was given to him. Negligence alleged
“She grew suspicious as the boy did not wake up even after reaching home and rushed him to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead,” Sanathnagar police station Sub-Inspector P. Renuka said. Mild tension prevailed as a large number of locals gathered while the child’s parents alleged negligence on part the health centre staff. They, however, did not make specific allegations against anybody in the written complaint they had subsequently lodged with the police who registered a case of suspicious death. Body of the child was shifted to hospital for conducting post-mortem. Sections of the law would be changed based on the findings of the autopsy, the SI said.
