Finesse: Marble-powder idols from Pune at the Gujarat Emporium show in Kollam.
KOLLAM: An exhibition and sale of handloom and handicraft products organised by the Gujarat Emporium at Jawahar Bal Bhavan here from August 1 is drawing huge crowds. Gujarat Emporium is a unit of Gujarat State Handloom, Handicrafts and Industrial Cooperative Federation Limited. This is the fifth consecutive year the Gujarat Emporium show is being held here. The show comprises a fascinating range of products that are not available in local markets. These include handloom dress materials, readymades, saris, and meticulously handmade show pieces in metal and wood. One of the exquisite items available at the exhibition are the marble powder idols with gold plated ornamental work from Pune. Both colourful and elegant, each piece of this beautiful collection reflects the dedication of the craftsmen who created it. Tie and dye saris from Orissa are yet another attraction. Cosy Rajasthani rajais (quilts) are also available. There are plenty of genuine leather items from Tamil Nadu to choose from. Wood works from Sarangpur finished in Assam teak are an added attraction. There are also gaghra-cholis from Jaipurand and semi-precious stones and lace work from Andhra Pradesh.
