Vocational training centre in Chennai celebrates 10th anniversary

CHENNAI: The T.S. Srinivasan Centre for Vocational and Advance Training (CVAT) held its graduation ceremony on Saturday. It was also the 10th anniversary for the Centre. Eighty-two students received their diplomas. In his introductory speech, TVS Educational Society advisor D. Yesudhas said the idea of an institute of this nature came about when a survey of the state of vocational training in the country suggested that the training being provided was not enough. “A new model was needed, CVAT represents a new alternative.” Set up in 1997, its aim was to create a trained group of people to meet the global needs .

R. Mukundan, Professor Emeritus, Clerkson University, New York, told the students that they were “the fourth pillar of the institution”. N. Ravi, Editor, The Hindu, addressing the CVAT graduates, said that they were fort unate to have received a range of matching skills that would allow them to take on a variety of tasks. “You have received exactly the kind of training industries are looking for….” He lauded Director Malini Srinivasan and the TVS team for the venture.

Malini Srinivasan said this was a special occasion because it was the 10th year of the institute.
