Two shot dead by naxals?

Panic-stricken locals burn bodies?

KORAPUT: Suspected naxalites reportedly shot dead Mukund Madhi of Bandiguda and Babu of MV120 village under the Korkonda block in Malkangiri district on Saturday night.

According to sources, naxalites took them away from a weekly market suspecting them to be police informers. The naxalites left the place after ‘killing’ the duo and after which the villagers with the fear of being the target for questioning by the police allegedly burnt the two bodies.

While admitting abduction of the two persons by naxalites, Satish Kumar Gajbey, SP of Malkangiri, said there was no proof of their death even after finding two places with ashes and marks of fire near the weekly market. Police did not file any case yet on the incident as no complaint was made by their family members.

On the possibility of naxalites killing the two for informing the police about a naxal leader Srinivas, the SP said that Srinivas was arrested after the police closely monitored his movements. There was no need for the police to depend upon someone to know his whereabouts, he added. With the villagers keeping silence on the two persons, it became a difficult task for the police who have been searching for them, said police sources.
