Anantapur town is a fairly big place and ironically the compost making activity is non-existent in the municipality. Sewage water flows in open drains and for weeks together sewage canals and drains remain uncleaned. The silt removed from the roadside canals are left on the road. There is no worthwhile activity of compost making by the municipal authorities or by the private agencies. Municipal wastes like domestic garbage, silt from side canals and cesspools yield excellent quality of compost which can be gainfully employed by farmers. Scientific efforts of making compost from municipal wastes are lacking. It is time for Anantapur Municipal Corporation to make some serious efforts to convert the waste into compost for enriching the agricultural lands. G. Azeemoddin, Anantapur Mere dream?
Regular payment of salaries to the staff of aided colleges in the State has remained a mere dream. Often salaries are paid quarterly. Sometimes, the budget is available but “green copy” is awaited. Even in service matters, they are discriminated against. Despite the assurances made by the Government, the past and the present, their plight remains the same. It is the bounden duty of the authorities concerned to look after this aided-structure to avoid its natural deaths. S.M. Basha, Kurnool Seasonal diseases
I would like to bring the problem of ‘seasonal diseases’ to the notice of authorities concerned through the Reader’s Mail. In Anantapur district, Many town and villagers are reeling under seasonal diseases like malaria, gastroenteritis and dengue. Many poor victims have been admitted to Government hospitals, where inadequate facilities and negligent attitude of medical fraternity is compounding their woes. Polluted drinking water and breeding of mosquitoes pave the way for the diseases in urban and rural areas as well. The Panchayay as well as Health department offiucials should take necessary steps to provide safe drinking water, sanitary measures and undertake fogging and spraying of Bytex to destroy the mosquitoes in the district. Hope the authorities respond positively. G. Jagannadh, Anantapur
