Jeev placed 34th

Akron (U.S.): Jeev Milkha Singh was let down by four bogeys in six holes on the front nine as he ended with a two-over 72 and moved up seven notches to be at the 34th spot after the third round of the WGC Bridgestone invitational golf tournament at Firestone Country Club.

The Indian ace, who was Asian Tour’s No. 1 last year, had four birdies and six bogeys in a round that was very eventful. He is eight-over 218 as only three players remained under par after 54 holes.

Korea’s Choi Kyung-ju enjoyed the ride when he fired a one-under-par 69 on Saturday.

Defending champion Tiger Woods climbed up to lone second position after a 69 and was a stroke behind leader Rory Sabbatini who carded a 206 total at the $8 million event.

Atwal slips

At Wichita, Arjun Atwal played a modest round of one-over 72 and dropped to 36th from overnight 20th at the $500,000 Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open golf tournament. After a good start with a birdie on the second, he bogeyed the third and fourth, but again caught up with a birdie on the seventh.

The up-and-down sequence continued with a bogey on the 10th, a birdie on the 14th and bogey on the 15th before he closed with three pars.

Michael Walton took a one-stroke lead.

Chopra 13th

At Reno, Daniel Chopra recovered superbly from an early double bogey and fired five birdies before closing with a bogey for two-under 70 that saw him climb to tied 13th after being 25th at the midway stage of the $3.5 million Reno-Tahoe Open golf tournament.

With a total of 210, Chopra is a stroke ahead of Kevin Na who shot a 71 at joint 18th spot.

Steve Flesch extended his lead to a solid five strokes after the third round. — PTI
