Loganathan defeats Vidya Pillai

CHENNAI: R. Loganathan defeated Vidya Pillai in a tense five frame contest winning 3-2 Group ‘B’ of the MCC-Faheem invitation snooker tournament at the MCC on Sunday.

The results: Group ‘A’: Rafath Habib (SRSA) bt R. Karthik (TNBSA) 77-7, 41-48, 58-7, 57-46. Group ‘B’: Antim Singhi (SRSA) bt R.S. Krishnan (MCC) 82-0, 54-20, 59-50; R. Loga nathan (SVS) bt Vidya Pillai (TNBSA) 62-14, 65-29, 50-54, 18-67, 58-29; Antim Singhi (SRSA) bt Vijay Nichani (CBA) 60-21, 73-21, 49-53, 64-21. Group ‘C’: K. Nishanthi triumphs

Playing her first women’s final, 18-year-old Nishanthi Kumaravel overcame her younger sister Swetha Kumaravel 11-5, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8 in the final of the Herman Miller Build Craft eighth State-ranking table tennis tournament here on Sunday.

Rajath Kamal (FCI) proved his worth with a 11-2, 6-11, 16-14, 11-7, 5-11, 12-10 win over a seasoned A. Srivatsa (AGORC) to bag his third men’s title.

In the women’s final. Leading 3-1, Nishanthi allowed Swetha to take a 9-4 lead and lost the fifth game. But the B. Com student of MOP Vaishnav College put things under control early in the sixth game.

The men’s summit clash was interesting with the way Rajath started out and the manner in which Srivatsa clawed his way back. The sixth game went the distance as Rajath fought his way saving two game points.

Football tournament

The Rev. Anderson State-level inter-school football tournament will begin on August 6 at the MCC HSS.

St. Xavier’s (Palayamkottai), St. Mary’s (Dindigul), Margoschis-Nazareth, Govt. School (Ooty), St. Patrick’s, American College School (Madurai), St. John’s, SBIOA, Don Bosco, PSBB, RKM, MCC HSS, Wesley among others will take part in the tournament.
