Chikkiah Naicker College to be converted into Govt. college

ERODE: To promote rural education and make the rural people literate, the Centre and the State Government are evolving and implementing various new schemes, said Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan here on Monday.

Classrooms inaugurated

She inaugurated three classrooms at the Edayankattuvalasu Municipal Middle School built at Rs. 8.60 lakh under the constituency development fund of the Tiruchengode Parliamentary Constituency which she represents and municipal fund.

The Union Minister said it was quite difficult for the MPs to grant such funds to all six assembly constituencies as they were getting only Rs. 2 crore.

But the MLA constituency development fund of Rs. 1 crore for a constituency could be granted to schools for their development.

She said that the Chikkiah Naicker College in Erode might soon be converted into Government college for which all basic works were completed.

She said that the State Government had announced that books were not necessary for students up to Standard IV to reduce their burden of book loads.

Inaugurating some more classrooms in the school, Handlooms and Textiles Minister N.K.K.P. Raja said that the Government and municipal schools in the district were functioning efficiently. Most of the schools obtained over 90 per cent results in the Plus Two and Class X examinations.

The Minister wanted philanthropists to donate liberally for the Government and local body schools. He asked them to adopt some schools and spend money for the students’ development.

Chairman of Nandha Educational Trust V. Shanmugan said that he would bear the expenses of a computer teacher for the school. Mr. Raja announced that he would grant Rs. 2 lakh from his constituency fund for the purchase of desks and benches for the school.

Municipal Chairman K. Kumar Murugesh said the municipality was having sufficient funds for the development works.
