Spirit seized at Walayar

Palakkad: Officials of the Excise and the Motor Vehicles Departments at the Walayar check-post seized two cars reportedly carrying illicit spirit into the State on Monday. At the check-post, a Santro car carrying 640 litres of spirit contained in 20 cans was seized MVD officials. They arrested Radhakrishnan, 38, of Kadampanad near Adoor, sources said. A team of officials led by Excise Circle Inspector P.R. Velayudhan detected another Santro car reportedly carrying 660 litres of spirit contained in 20 cans. On seeing the Excise party at Para near Elappully, the driver took the vehicle to the Walayar side.

The officials chased the vehicle and took it into custody near the Walayar check-post. The driver managed to escape, the Excise Department officials said.
