COIMBATORE: Since the revamping of the School of Distance Education of Bharathiar University, 15,000 students have made use of it and applied for various courses in the last two months, Vice-Chancellor G. Thiruvasagam said here recently. More than a 100 study centres had been established in India. The school was looking to open centres in Malaysia and Singapore. Expressing happiness over the success, he said that an Additional Controller of Examinations would be appointed exclusively for the School of Distance Education, to strengthen its activities. “There will be two dedicated helplines for the convenience of students of the university and its affiliated colleges. Students who have grievances can call 2427752; while those who have to call the city study centre can contact 2427742”, said Dr. Thiruvasagam. Water supply affected
A leak in the main supply line of the Pilloor scheme stopped supply of drinking water to the eastern parts of the city and over 500 panchayats on Monday. The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board officials said the leak was noticed in the evening at Vellamadai , 25 km north of the city. Works to plug the leak were on and would be completed by Tuesday evening.
