Monsoon active over State

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: North Coastal Andhra experienced heavy rain as the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal crossed the coast near Paradeep in Orissa in the early hours of Monday.

Several low-lying areas in Srikakulam district were inundated, especially Sompeta that received 10 cm of rain. The torrential rain drenched a large number of other places in the district.

An official in the State Met Office here said Khammam, Warangal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Adilabad were likely to receive heavy rain on Tuesday in the wake of the deep depression.

The deep depression lay centred over coastal Orissa, close to Cuttack, and is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction and weaken gradually. As a result, the South-West monsoon turned active in Coastal Andhra and Telangana.

Rain is likely at several places in Nellore, Prakasam, Krishna and Guntur districts on Tuesday.
