TIRUPATI: Barely a week after the committee appointed by the Veterinary Council of India probed the alleged practice of caste discrimination by the authorities of the Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University here in the name of ‘attendance shortage’, yet another student on Monday reportedly made an abortive bid to end his life. The 3rd year student Krishna Rao who, however, survived the bid reportedly resorted to the extreme step unable to digest the authorities not allowing him to appear for the examination due to ‘attendance shortage’. The All India Students Federation (AISF), which gave a call for an agitation on Tuesday on campus sought action against the faculty concerned who was responsible for the incident. It also sought to bring pressure on the authorities to permit the half-a-dozen students including Krishna Rao who were allegedly denied permission to appear for the examination to write the tests. Bone of contention
It may be recalled that this was the bone of contention for the unrest on campus for the last few days resulting in a stand-off between the university authorities and the students. A ‘ploy’
The university authorities insisted on acting tough against the problem while the students alleged that the college was only using it as a ploy to subject a section of them to caste discrimination.
