MADURAI: Efforts will be taken to establish a super speciality hospital on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences here, Health Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran has said.
He was talking to reporters here on Sunday.
The matter would be discussed with the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, and steps initiated under his guidance.
Mr. Ramachandran was here to attend a consultative meeting with higher officials of the Corporation, the Government Rajaji Hospital and the Public Works Department regarding the proposed extension hospital works at the Anna Bus Stand.
The foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction works of the extension hospital would be held on August 22.
The estimated cost of the project was Rs.22 crore and another Rs.10 crore had been allotted for buying equipment, he said.
The extension hospital would have five floors, including the ground floor, and care would be taken to provide facilities that matched with multi-speciality private hospitals, Mr. Ramachandran said.
The construction work would be completed in 18 months, he said.
The Government was even prepared to allocate more funds to the hospital based on outpatient and inpatient flow, he said.
