TIRUCHI: How many times have you pored over the thesaurus to find synonyms of verbs but ended up in frustration without the exact substitute? Well, there is no need for getting disheartened anymore. Every verb is unique and replacing it by a synonym would only change the meaning of the sentence.

The students of Vasavi Vidyalaya Matriculation School here had more to know about the action words at a session on ‘Do it,’ the third module in ‘vocabulary enrichment.’

A list of words was read out by the students when resource person C. Arunmozhi asked them to list actions related to hands, legs and brain.

Soon after the applause for the team that offered the longest list of words subsided, Ms. Arunmozhi set off a fun game, calling a couple of volunteers to enact an action and a feeling.“Verbs can add life to a sentence, but you must be wary of the verbs used, as the action words could change the visual you are trying to put across to the reader,” she told the students.
