400 Home Guards for traffic regulation in Cyberabad

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Things appear to be bright for Cyberabad traffic police as the much-needed recruitment of Home Guards is underway and State government sanctioning four speed laser guns to keep a tab on traffic violators. More so, a new Commissionerate building is also being constructed at Madhapur.

Dearth of traffic constables and home guards was one of the factors affecting traffic regulation in Cyberabad. It has the distinction of being an accident-prone area and tops the list of accidents occurred in the State. Over 500 persons died in fatal accidents occurred in Cyberabad jurisdiction from January this year till date. At present, selection of 400 home guards is in progress and it would be completed by this month-end.

Though home guards assist in regulating traffic, a proposal has been sent to the government seeking for 500 more constables, said Cyberabad Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) P. Muni Swamy. He said the Commissionerate building was being constructed at a cost of Rs.3 crore and would be ready by next month. “The new office will meet all our administrative needs, including a state-of-the-art control room,” he said. Rest of the developments are linked to Outer Ring Road projects. With the International airport coming up, five existing police stations would be re-located for better traffic regulation. An Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) will be in-charge of immigration procedures at the airport
