B M Birla Science Centre launches Website

HYDERABAD: The over two-decade old prestigious B. M. Birla Science Centre known for its innovative science popularisation programmes and valuable research work has launched its Website here on Tuesday.

The website www.birlasciencecentre.org, a comprehensive one with detailed information about all the wings of the centre was formally launched by Nirmala Birla, President of Birla Archaeology and Cultural Centre.

The Director General of Birla Science Centre B. G. Siddharth told media persons that the website would give all the information about Birla Planetarium, Science Museum, Dinosaurium, Nirmala Birla Gallery of Modern Art, International Institute of Applicable Mathematics and Information Sciences and would chronicle the activities and events at the Centre for wider reach.

The information related to regular events at the Science Centre like workshops, exhibitions, national and international symposia on science and technology and related topics and astronomy, on going research programmes besides science camps, activity competitions for students and teachers, etc., would be hosted on the website, Dr.Siddharth said.

The Centre has many years of collaborative research with European Union and sponsored seven fellowships in IT related areas which would be increased to about eight more this year, he said.

Stating that India was lagging behind in research activity, Dr.Siddharth said more institutions in the private sector should invest in research on the lines of Birla Science Centre.

Ms. Nirmala Birla said that private sector could do better with some help from Government. The Birla centre which had taken up archaeological excavations in Madhya Pradesh and undersea excavation at Dwaraka has no new such plans.
