Enchantress: Mohiniyattom performance by Neena Prasad.
With gentle movements, Neena Prasad brought River Yamuna to the aesthetically created stage at Hotel Fortune in Kozhikode on Monday night. Lord Krishna and his beloved Radha, on the banks of Yamuna, also came alive in Neena’s captivating presentation of Jayadeva’s Ashtapadi, ‘Dheera sameere’, set in ragamalika. It was indeed the piece de resistance of the Thiruvananthapuram-based danseuse’s Mohiniyattom recital, presented during the launch of Tourism Department’s Malabar Tourism Development Initiative. Neena made the evening a memorable one for those fortunate enough to be there with her enchanting grace and skills as a Mohiniyattom performer. Her recital may have lasted barely half-an-hour, but it showed why she is rated among the finest Mohiniyattom dancers of the day. At the end of the programme, Neena said she was forced to shorten her recital because she was suffering from high fever. It was the sheer misfortune of the spectators. To her credit though, Neena never ever gave any indication of her illness during her recital. P.K. Ajith Kumar
