APSRTC blueprint for profit

Staff Reporter

To run 260 more buses, including two Garuda services to Bangalore

Guntur region to get more than 80 buses

Complaint boxes to be kept at key points

GUNTUR: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, Vijayawada region, will roll out 260 additional buses this year, corporation’s Vijayawada and Vizianagaram zones Executive Director S. Dharma Reddy has said.

Out of the total fleet, Guntur region would get more than 80 buses, the majority of which would be allotted to the highly successful ‘Palle Velugu’ fleet, he told reporters here on Tuesday.

The increase in the number of buses would pave the way for increasing the occupancy ratio and would help the RTC zoom into profits, he said.

Impressive gains

The Vijayawada Zone, comprising Vijayawada, Guntur and West Godavari regions, registered impressive profits to the extent of Rs.14 crores during the last quarter ending in June and said that the RTC had set itself a target to register a profit of Rs.10 crores in the next quarter.

The RTC Guntur region would run two more Garuda services to Bangalore to meet the increasing passenger rush, Regional Manager G. Jaya Rao said.

This was in addition to the existing two services, he added.

Appreciating the Guntur region for increasing the occupancy ratio from 67 per cent to 70 per cent, Mr. Reddy said that he had set a target of achieving a profit of Rs.3 crores in the next quarter.

Accountability

Stressing the importance of accountability in the running of services, he said that drop-in complaint boxes would be installed at all key points in the bus station complex and invited the people to record their complaints.

To check illegal plying of unauthorised private operators on RTC routes, the RTC would soon conduct joint inspections with the Transport Department, he added.
