Tirupati: The district administration has successfully conducted social audit in 20 mandals of the district on works completed under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), Collector Shamsher Singh Rawat said. Explaining the developmental activities to the district in-charge Minister A. Ramnarayan Reddy at a meeting here on Tuesday, Mr. Rawat stated that works on desiltation, repairs to supply channels, development of mango gardens and agricultural wells etc., worth in all Rs.112 crore, had been taken up thus far to benefit 2.66 lakh families. The landholdings of SC/ST families had been developed with Rs.12 crore under ‘Indira Prabha’ scheme. 18 Bulk Milk Cooling Units (BMCUs) were being run successfully by women’s groups, while three more were in the pipeline to be inaugurated by August 15, the Collector informed, adding that Chittoor district ranked second in the entire country in terms of dairy development. Mr. Ramanarayan Reddy admired the silent revolution achieved by Chittoor on various fronts and promised to support the district administration’s future endeavours.
