Minister refutes charges against NWKRTC

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Minister for Transport N. Cheluvarayaswamy assured the Legislative Council on Tuesday that the Government would ask the Managing Director of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to look into allegations of irregularities in the North-West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC).

Moving a call attention notice, M.P. Nadagouda (JD-U) and Veeranna Mattikatti and A.M. Hindasgeri (Congress) alleged that NWKRTC officials had been siphoning funds deposited under Provident Fund, insurance and gratuity. They also charged that poor quality tyres were being purchased for buses.

The Minister said he was surprised at such allegations. He was confident that they were not true, and he was prepared to resign if he was proved wrong. The Government had constituted a Central Purchase Committee headed by the Managing Director of the KSRTC. The Managing Directors of the three other road transport corporations were members of the committee. All the corporations had to seek the approval of the central committee for all purchases. The authorities of each corporation took care of the Provident Fund, insurance and gratuity of employees, he said.
