JAIPUR: With a crisis looming large over the marble industry in Rajasthan following an increase in the import quota, Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje has called upon the Centre to withdraw the move and safeguard the interests of the industry. Ms. Raje, who met Union Commerce Minister Kaml Nath in New Delhi on Monday, registered her protest against the Centre’s decision and pointed out that the larger import quota for marble blocks would only benefit 20 to 25 units in Mumbai and Silvasa, but would ruin the industry in the desert State. Ms. Raje urged the Centre to broaden the licensing procedure and lay down certain parameters to extend equal benefits to all licence holders under the policy. An official release here stated that Mr. Nath assured Ms. Raje that the hike would be reviewed at the earliest.
