Row over ‘landgrab’ at DRC meet
Staff Reporter
ELURU: The issue of alleged grabbing of assigned lands by Congress MLA Vatti Vasantakumar caused a ruckus at the meeting of the District Review Committee (DRC) on Tuesday, paralysing the session for nearly an hour.
Members from both the ruling Congress and the TDP lost their cool and engaged themselves in a heated argument with wild gestures, leading to a din at the meeting. The DRC, chaired by district Incharge Minister P. Subhashchandra Bose failed to take up more than one subject out of nine major items figuring on the agenda till 1-30 pm due to angry scenes.
The TDP appeared to have set an agenda of its own to focus on the alleged land grabbing issue by executing a call to storm the Collectorate in the run up to the DRC meeting. Mr. Bose apart, Minister for Minor Irrigation Maganti Venkateswara Rao and other dignitaries had a stormy encounter with agitating TDP ranks while making their way into the meeting hall. However, the police treaded with caution while handling the agitators in the light of the bloody police firing at Mudigonda in Khammam district.
Kothapalli Subbarayudu, MLA from Narsapur, got into arguments with the district In-charge Minister when denied an opportunity to raise the issue.
