He has been charged with conspiring with terrorists to destabilise India
BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday rejected a bail application by a resident of Mysore accused of having helped two Pakistan-based terrorists who had come to India with the intention of fomenting unrest and set off bombs. Sadiq Shariff of Mysore had moved the High Court for bail saying he had been falsely implicated by the Mysore police in the Al-Badr case in which the police had “captured” two Pakistan-based terrorists when they were riding a motorcycle. After their arrest, the terrorists had said they had been helped in obtaining documents such as ration cards by Sadiq. The police had then arrested Sadiq and charged him with conspiring with the terrorists to destabilise India. Opposing bail, State Public Prosecutor S. Dore Raju contended that Sadiq had helped the terrorists obtain ration cards and also tried to help them in acquiring other documents even after coming to know that they were not citizens of India but of Pakistan. He said the terrorists had planned to set off bombs in Mysore and Bangalore and also create communal divide. He said the terrorists had also managed to open a bank account and were involved in getting money from Pakistan to be used for subversive activities in the country. He contended that Sadiq knew of the plot of the terrorists and said that he had failed to bring it to the notice of the police or the district authorities. Moreover, he is accused of fabricating and forging documents. Justice H. Billappa accepted the contentions of the State and rejected the bail plea.
