Jurisdiction is still an issue with the police

Realtor loses Rs. 3.2 lakh ; Market police refuse to take complaint

HYDERABAD: Some habits don’t change easily, never mind modern networking and communications. Despite standing orders not to refuse taking any complaint irrespective of the police station’s jurisdiction, the ‘men in khaki’ do not think it is necessary to follow them.

On Tuesday, a realtor realised that he lost his suitcase containing Rs.3.2 lakh and other valuables from the rear seat of his car. He noticed the theft after he reached his office at Himayatnagar. The businessman, Soma Madhava Reddy, reached the Secunderabad Monda Market police station initially to lodge a complaint considering that his first stop was at the Regional Passport Office at Secunderabad.

Mr. Reddy, a resident of Jeedimetla, immediately came to the Market police station with his driver, Sudershan, on the assumption that the suitcase might have been stolen when he went inside the RPO. But the police there refused to take the complaint and in fact, reportedly berated him for coming there since he had noticed the theft in an area which comes under the Narayanaguda police station!

The Narayanaguda police were kind enough to take the complaint and book a case. But, they did not bother to collect the fingerprints from the car as is always the case. The police have a data of listed criminals as per their modus operandi and it would be easy to trace the criminal if the prints are obtained.

“We have booked the case though the offence occurred under Market police station limits. We will try and collect the fingerprints to identify the possible culprits,” said Narayanguda police.
