Schools to remain closed for the third successive day 25 houses damaged in the last 24 hours
Madikeri: Rain fury continued in Kodagu district causing huge loss, even as official reports confirmed that five cattlehead were lost in Mutlu and Hammiyala villages, near here. Bhagamandala and Talacauvery areas remain cut off for the third consecutive day from the rest of the district following submergence of roads. The loss due to rain in the district has been put at Rs. 49.28 crore. The Kodagu district administration has submitted a proposal to the State Government seeking funds to take up relief measures. The Government has released only Rs. 6.5 crore as relief to the district. As on date, 800 houses have been damaged in the district since monsoon began, causing an estimated loss of Rs. 77.40 lakh. As many as 25 houses were damaged in various parts of the district in the last 24 hours following heavy rain. Bhagamandala-Madikeri road, Bhagamandala-Aiyyangeri road, Murnad-Napoklu road at Bolibane and Balele-Nittur road in Virajpet taluk remain under water, severing off road links. Closed
Educational institutions will remain closed for the third consecutive day on Wednesday following torrential rain in all parts of the district, the Deputy Director of Public Instruction, said in an official press release here on Tuesday. Loss
Major loss estimate has come from the Panchayat Raj Engineering wing. Its loss has been put at Rs. 31.71 crore, mainly covering rural roads. The loss under the Public Works Department is estimated at Rs. 9.99 crore. Damage to property under the Minor Irrigation Department is put at Rs. 3.7 crore. Loss estimated by the Department of Horticulture is Rs. 1.36 crore over an extent of 392.40 hectares (crop loss). The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company’s loss is estimated at Rs. 64.49 lakh and that of the Department of Agriculture is 63.82 lakh over an extent of 709.10 hectares. In the last 24 hours, Talacauvery area received 255.6 mm rainfall, followed by Bhagamandala with 230.4 mm, Ponnampet 110 mm, Madikeri 91 mm, Napoklu 76.8 mm, Somwarpet 72.8 mm, Virajpet 70.6 mm, Kutta 65 mm, Srimangala 61.4 mm, Siddapur 51.6 mm and Gonicoppa 32 mm. Level of the Harangi reservoir stood at 2,859 feet, the same as its maximum level on Tuesday. Inflow was 8,536 cusecs while outflow into the river was 7,532 cusecs and into the canal was 1,000 cusecs.
