Two students among four killed in accident

Reduced to pulp: The mangled remains of the autorickshaw involved in the accident on the outskirts of Kurnool on Tuesday.

KURNOOL: Four persons, including two schoolchildren, were killed when the autorickshaw in which they were travelling collided with a truck near B. Tandrapadu on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday. The other two persons who were killed were teachers. Three students and three teachers were proceeding in the autorickshaw to their school at Nandyal Checkpost when a truck coming in the opposite direction hit it while overtaking another vehicle. Two students, Abhilash, fourth standard, and Harikrishna, sixth standard, died on the spot. Two teachers, Revathi (35) and Suvarna (28) died on the way to hospital. Another teacher Fatima, and a student, Chandrasekhar, and the auto driver, Krishna, who were critically injured are being treated at the Government hospital.

The site of the accident presented a pathetic sight with scattered school bags, books, broken lunch boxes and water bottles. All the victims suffered head injuries. A pall of gloom descended on Good Shepherd School where the students were studying and teachers teaching. The news of the accident shocked parents across the city. People from B. Tandrapadu and the nearby villages rushed to the accident site to know the well-being of their children who commute by autorickshaws to schools. Fatima, who was critically injured, did not know that her son, Abhilash, was killed in the accident. Suvarna, the teacher who was killed, was married only a few months ago. She was related to Harikrishna, who was also killed. Deputy SP Ramnath visited the accident site. Collector Dana Kishore visited the victims at the hospital.
