This Day That Age
Oliver Hardy, the rotund half of the film comedy team of Laurel and Hardy, died on August 7. Hardy, who had a stroke last September, was 65. He teamed with British-born Stan Laurel in 1927 and together they made more than 200 pictures highlighted by slap-stick sequences which were classics of their kind. Hardy died at the home of Mrs. Minnie L. Jones, his mother-in-law, at North Hollywood (California). He had been incapacitated and unable to speak since the stroke. Born near Atlanta, Georgia, in 1892, Hardy left college to join a troupe of minstrels and worked his way up the show business ladder the hard way.
