PANAJI: The rail traffic on Konkan Railway route between Margao (south Goa) and Karwar, which was disrupted for several hours following a landslide at Nagarcem in Canacona in south Goa on Tuesday, will resume soon, said a spokesman of the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. (KRCL) on Wednesday. “The continuing torrential rain in the south Konkan region for the last few days has resulted in soil slippage and has affected the train traffic on Konkan Railway route and as a consequence some trains have been regulated at various stations while a few have been cancelled,” Baban Ghatge, manager, Public Relations-KRCL, told The Hindu on Wednesday. The helpline number for passengers is 10722. Train status could also be seen on www.konkanrailway.com, he said. A hillock caved in and covered the railway tracks at Nagarcem-Canacona on Tuesday evening, minutes before the Mangalore-Kurla Express was to pass along the route. Some villagers informed KRCL officials about the landslide at about 6.00 p.m. and helped avert a major mishap.
