KOLLAM: The nation-wide strike called by the CITU on Wednesday to press its demand for comprehensive social security legislation for workers of the unorganised sector was partial in the district. Private buses remained off the road and as a result many educational institutions remained closed. Classes were held only till noon in schools which functioned with thin attendance. KSRTC buses plied as usual. Some of the autorickshaw stands in the city wore a deserted look. Shops and commercial establishments remained open and the banks too functioned. Workers in the unorganised sector, under the banner of the CITU, took out a march through the city highlighting their demand.
