BHUBANESWAR: Train traffic on the Bhubaneswar-Sambalpur route was badly affected as Puri-Tapaswini Express got derailed near Maneswar Station early on Wednesday. No casualty was reported. According East Coast Railway (ECR) sources, five bogies (fifth from the engine), got down from the main track at 5.15 a.m. The cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained. Subsequently, all passengers were brought from the accident site to Sambalpur station from where they resumed their journey by a special train. The ECR also set up assistance booth at Sambalpur, Puri, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Khurda. The division claimed that nobody was even injured. None injured
As a result of the derailment, Sambalpur-Puri-Sambalpur Inter city express and Rourkela-Puri-Rourkela passenger were cancelled. The Rourkela-Puri passengers will run up to Sambalpur. The Bhubaneswar-Kurla Express train was being taken on diverted route through Maneswar, Angul, Bhadrak, Kharagpur, Jharsuguda and Raipur. Bhubaneswar-Balangir-Bhubaneswar Intercity Express will run up to Dhenkanal and return back to Bhubaneswar. This train had been cancelled between Dhenkanal and Bolangir. Officials and staff of the East Coast Railway rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
