NEW DELHI: Two leading German companies having operations in India — Deutsche Bank and Lufthansa Airlines — on Wednesday joined hands to launch the Miles & More credit card in India. The credit card, launched in association with Visa International, packages all travel benefits required by international frequent flyers. The card gives cardholders automatic membership to the Miles & More programme, the frequent flyer programme of Lufthansa and allows its members to earn award miles whenever they fly with Lufthansa and other partner airlines, stay at partner hotels, rent a car or use services of other partners. Describing India as a “very important and strategic market” for both German companies, Lufthansa and Deutsche Bank officials predicted that India would have about 120 million air travellers by 2010 with about 40 million international travellers. “Increasing international air traffic carried on Lufthansa will funnel additional members into the programme, making it one of the largest frequent flyers programmes and allow Deutsche Bank to extend its distribution reach into this fast growing market segment,” Carsten Schaeffer, Managing Director of Miles & More programme, said at the credit card launch ceremony here. Operating in India for the past 27 years, Deutsche Bank launched its credit cards last year in nine cities.
