Militants kill 8 Hindi-speaking persons

Guwahati: Eight Hindi-speaking persons were gunned down and three others injured in an attack by militants of the Karbi Longri National Liberation Front and the United Liberation Front of Asom in central Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday night.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Central Range) L.R. Bisnoi told The Hindu that a group of about 20-25 armed militants attacked Ampathar village near Bokoliaghat under Howraghat police station of the hill district and fired indis
criminately. He said the incident occurred around 8 p.m. All the dead belonged to peasant families. The KLNLF is the anti-talks faction of the militant United People’s Democratic Solidarity which had entered into a ceasefire agreement with the Centre.
