Ayush Doctors’ Welfare Association chief to go on 12-hour fast The doctors say they are willing to work anywhere in the State
HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Ayush Doctors’ Welfare Association will launch a sustained and phased agitation to protest against the Government’s ‘indifference’ to fill 294 posts in the department for which a budget of over Rs.4.39 lakh has been sanctioned.
P. Johnson, president, told a press conference here on Wednesday, that he would undertake a 12-hour fast on August 10 from 8 a.m. at Indira Park.
If the demand was not conceded, the association would take up other forms of agitation, like dharnas, to exert pressure on the Government.
Alleging diversion of the sanctioned budget, he expressed surprise at the Government’s indifference in filling the posts although Ayush doctors were willing to work anywhere in the State. The doctors’ attitude was in contrast to Allopathic medicos, reluctant to work in rural areas.
No faith
Referring to Minister for Vaidya Vidhana Parishad V. Venkateswar Rao’s recent statement that Ayush posts would be filled, he said the association did not have faith in what he had said .
He said another aspect causing anxiety to the association was non-appointment of Ayush practitioners as third medical officer in the PHCs because of which the State was losing Rs.2,733 lakh Central budget.
