APCO poised for Rs. 150-cr. profit: orders galore

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: APCO is poised to net a profit of Rs. 150 crore this year compared to Rs. 137 crore last year.

This is so because the products made available for sale at APCO shops these days are attractive, says Handlooms & Textile Minister P. Sabitha Reddy.

Added to this, the APCO is flooded with orders for bulk supply of cloth to the Police, Health & Medical, Social Welfare and other Government departments and agencies.

New portal

The Minister disclosed this to reporters on Wednesday after formally inaugurating a new portal for handloom cloth www.handlooms.com, a private website that would provide information about any aspect of handloom cloth in India. It would also furnish details about such famous handloom centres as Gadwal, Pochampalli, Venkatagiri, Narayanpet, Chirala, Mangalagiri etc. The website, launched by D. G. Ladha, would enable consumers anywhere in the world to place orders directly with any of the centres.

Textile clusters

Ms. Sabitha said textile clusters had been launched at Chriala and Madhavaram, each at a cost of Rs 2 crores, to provide all facilities under one roof, including training to weavers.

Those trained by master weavers at these clusters would be provided with bank linkages so that they could set up their own units later. The eight textile parks set up in the State were functioning well.
