BANGALORE: Allergan Inc., the $3.01 billion (FY 2006) U.S.-based pharmaceutical company, opened Allergan Pharmaceutical Development Centre here on Wednesday, focused on ophthalmology treatment. It will eventually become one of the company’s largest research facilities outside the U.S. Scott M. Whitcup, Executive Vice-President, R&D for Allergan Worldwide, told reporters that the company would spend “$2-3 million over the next two years and may double the present research staff to 15. The Bangalore centre will be critical to our research activities”. Rman Shetty, Head-Clinical Research, India, said Allergan India in Bangalore, will continue to manage the business operations in India.
