History of numismatics

A 30-minute documentary ‘Pavithram Paithrukam’ talks about the history of coins in the country and highlights the collections of select members of the Calicut Numismatics Society. The documentary is made by students of Master of Communication and Journalism (MCJ) of Don Bosco College at Angadikadavu under the Kannur University. The documentary highlights the coin collections of five members and also the household utensils and weight and measures used in the pas t, says Mithosh Joseph who directed and wrote the script.

Historian M.G.S. Narayanan gives a historical outline to the whole picture. It shows punch marked coins, fancy number coins and wonder currencies. Mithosh says the documentary is dedicated to all those who love history. “This documentary is expected to kindle interest in things past among the present generation,” adds Mithosh.
