Old pumpsets to be replaced

It will help attain energy efficiency, say officials

New pump sets will be given at subsidised rates


NAMAKKAL: District Agricultural Engineering Department (AE) has decided to undertake the exercise of replacing the old agricultural pumpsets with new ones in the district.

As per the Government orders, the pumps are to be replaced with subsidy. According to its Executive Engineer, under the 5 horse power (HP), category, new pump sets will be supplied at 50 per cent of the total cost or the maximum of Rs. 3,500 as subsidy for Dalit farmers and 25 per cent or a maximum of Rs. 2,500 subsidy for others.

Under the 5 HP and above category, new pump sets will be supplied at 50 per cent of the cost or a maximum of Rs. 6,000 as subsidy for Adi Dravidar farmers and 25 per cent or maximum of Rs. 5,000 subsidy for other farmers.

For the replacement of panel board and electrical accessories, 50 per cent or maximum of Rs.1,500 subsidy will be given to all farmers irrespective of category.

Only approved firms pump sets will be considered for subsidy.

Thus 75 pump sets for Adi Dravidar farmers under the 5 HP and above category would be replaced with new ones with a total subsidy of Rs. 4.88 lakh and for other farmers, 23 pump sets under the 5 HP category and 855 pump sets under the 5 HP and above category with a total subsidy of Rs.63.99 lakh will be replaced.

Thus a total of 953 pump sets will be replaced for a total subsidy of Rs.68.87 lakh for 2007-08.

This exercise, according to the officials, will phase out the old ones, which are high energy consuming ones.

All farmers using old pump sets with energy index of more than 0.75 will be eligible to avail the subsidy under this scheme.

Collector G. Sundaramurty has asked the eligible farmers to select the approved firms of their choice to buy the pump sets and register their applications with the Assistant Executive Engineer, (Agricultural Engineering) Namakkal or at the Office of Assistant Executive Engineer (AE), Tiruchengode, as early as possible.
