JAIPUR: The broiler drum for the 250-MW first unit of the proposed Chabbra thermal power station in Baran district of Rajasthan has been installed before the scheduled time raising hopes of the plant beginning production by August next year. The schedule for commencing production in the second unit is November 2008. The project is estimated to cost Rs.2,350 crore. The broiler drum, weighing 133 tonnes, was installed at a height of 58 metres on Tuesday in the presence of Urban Development Minister Pratapsingh Singhvi, Minister of State for Energy Rajendra Singh Kheevsar and Member of Parliament from Jhalawar Dushyant Singh. Mr. Kheevsar said work on the third unit of the gas-based power station in Dholpur would be completed next month. ‘A milestone’
Mr. Dushyant Singh termed the setting up of the power plant in Chabbra a milestone in the development of the area. An Energy Ministry release said the work on the 1,600-tonne steel structure for carrying the broiler drum was complete. The installation of the steel columns of the main powerhouse building is now in progress. The main plant of the project, including the design, supply and erection of the broiler-turbine and generator, is being carried out by BHEL, while the rest of the work has been entrusted to Punj Llyod, it said.
