KOLLAM: The police have decided to strengthen vigil in the city in view of Onam.
In a statement, Kollam Deputy Superintendent of Police T. Reghunathan Nair said that more police personnel had been drawn from the Armed Reserve Camp for security measures during the festival.Patrolling
Round-the-clock patrolling would be done. Special vigil would be maintained in areas such as bus depot, District Hospital Road, Taluk Cutrchery Junction, Parvathy Mill Junction, railway station, Beach Road, Paidkada Road and beach.
Driving licences of those caught for drunken driving would be suspended.
Vehicles could be parked only in areas reserved for the purpose. Action would be taken against drivers overtaking from the wrong side.
The statement wanted the public to inform the police if sale of illicit liquor came to their attention, through ph: 1090, 100, 2742376 or 2764422.
Those going on holidays have been advised not to keep ornaments and cash in their house during their absence. Newspaper agents should be asked not to drop papers and magazines at the house during those day. The police can be informed of the absence.
