BERHAMPUR: Landslip rendered around 250 persons homeless at the remote Srirampur village under Kotgarh block of Kandhamal district. Though the incident occurred on August 6, it came to light only on Wednesday as the village is located in remote area. Continuous rains last week led to this landslide from the hill near the village. But the loud sound that preceded the landslide let the inhabitants of this tiny village got time to save their lives. But they lost their houses, belongings and some stray animals. As per official sources 30 families of the village were affected by the landslip. Huge trees and large boulders have also come down from the hill. Large deposit of mud has covered up the agricultural land of the villagers. The affected families are now taking shelter at the local school. Minister Padmanabh Behera, Kandhamal collector, Gangadhar Singh and other officials visited the area on Wednesday. The affected families are being provided relief. Forest officials attribute it to shifting of cultivation to the nearby hill.
