Lifer for murder

CUTTACK: Nilakantha Sahu alias Ninja, a gangster who was convicted last week for murder, was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life.

Ninja was convicted under Section 302 of the IPC for killing another gangster Padia Sahu in a shootout in October 2002.

The fast track court of N.P. Rout announced the quantum of punishment on Thursday.

District public prosecutor Hemant Kumar Jena pleaded for an enhanced punishment to Ninja, as he was earlier convicted for murder in 1995 and sentenced to undergo RI for 10 years.

Seven other co-accused in the case were acquitted for want of evidence.

Another co-accused Biswanath Behera who was on bail is at large. An NBW was issued against him.
