“Remove ban on recruitment”

PUDUKOTTAI: A total of 150 volunteers of All India Youth Federation affiliated to the Communist Party of India (CPI) who attempted to picket Government offices in support of their four-point charter of demands at three centres courted arrest in the district on Thursday. They were released in the evening.

Their demands included withdrawal of ban on recruitment in government departments and implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee programme in all the districts. The agitation was held in Pudukkottai, Aranthangi and Alankudi.

Karur

The police took into custody 20 members belonging to the AIYF here after they staged a dharna near the Court complex with similar demands.
