Medical negligence alleged in woman’s death

Special Correspondent

MADURAI: In a suspected case of death due to medical negligence, a 35-year-old woman died soon after surgery at a private clinic here on Tuesday.

Relatives of the victim staged a demonstration on the Collectorate premises on Wednesday demanding the arrest of doctors involved in the case.

The woman’s husband lodged a complaint with the police seeking action and a case under Section 174 (unnatural death) of IPC was registered.

According to police sources, the complainant, P. Vellaiappan (42) of Alanganallur, said that his wife, V. Meena was admitted to a clinic in Narimedu following acute stomach ache.

The doctors advised surgery to remove her uterus.

Immediately after performing the surgery, the doctors told him to rush the patient to the Government Rajaji Hospital as she had developed complications.

However, Meena was declared dead on arrival at the GRH.

Alleging medical negligence, the kin of the victim demanded arrest of those responsible for her death.

The Tallakulam police are investigating, the sources added.
